July 19th, 2011

Today is the day I have been looking forward to for the last 10 months!  Of course, it won't be the day that I'll remember as my baby's birthday for the rest of my life, but that's ok.  This is an exciting, momentous day anyway.  I made it to 40 weeks of pregnancy!   That's pretty exciting:)

Anyway, I had a baby shower about 3 weeks or so ago, and we decorated onsies as the baby shower activity.  It was a lot of fun!  I took photos of them just yesterday, and thought I'd share them on my blog today.  It seems like a fitting date to show them, right?

Above R was made by my photo friend Linnea...she's a craft queen!  Seriously, I love that onsie so much!

This is another of Linnea's work.  It's kind of an inside joke about a photo class we took.  It's the large format class, but it's often referred to as the "Zoning Class" and those who photograph with a large format camera are called "zonies".  That's part of it, anyway.  I love it though.  So clever:)

And Linnea made that CUTEST ice cream onsie, and my other photo friend Veronica made the elephant!  Isn't it adorable?

The blueish purple onsie is my creation.  Not as cute as I wanted it to be, but still cute.  And the red one is by Becca, my sis-in-law.  Isn't it so cute?  I love these camera onsies!!

This is going to be her take home outfit.  Isn't it darling?  My sister Larissa made it and sent it to me.  It's so teeny weeny, and I just LOVE the ruffle butt!

Last, but certainly not least, is Andrew's awesome BYU onsie.  He was incredibly proud of his work.  He hand wrote the 'Y' without a stencil or anything...and he picked out the material and figured out the layout all on his own.  He wanted this to be her take home outfit, but let's be honest.  She'd be swimming in it, and sweating like crazy...so I said no.  Haha:)  Look at that face though...he's so proud of his onsie:)

Well, hopefully I'll have a baby between now and next post.  I guess we'll see!

4x5 lovin'

I had a few 4x5 images that I hadn't scanned from my large format photo class that I took last Fall.  I really loved that class.  In fact, it has been one of my favorite classes I've taken in the program.  Yes, it was frustrating in the beginning with the learning curve, but the process of photographing large format was really just fun.  It took about 25-30 minutes for me to take one photo, but I was usually quite happy with my one photo.

Anyway, here are the final 4 images from that class.  I hope to photograph more 4x5 in the future for personal use.  I still have a box of film with 25 negatives to use!

Preg update:  Still pregnant.  I have a feeling I'll be pregnant for at least another week, maybe two.  My due date it tomorrow, which I'm sure will come and go.  And so I'll keep working and earning dinero!  That's a good thing:)

There we go.  That is the end of my photo series.  I will take photos of the actual book and post it soon.

Update on the pregnancy: still pregnant.  I know I'm not due until July 19th, but I really want to have her RIGHT now:).  I'll miss certain aspects of pregnancy, but not the stage I'm in right now.  I am SO tired (always, which didn't hit me until about 2 weeks ago), RIDICULOUSLY unmotivated, and really moody.  I feel bad for poor Andrew because I'm constantly cranky, irritable, or weepy.  Dag on hormones!  But I am feeling positive that things are progressing nicely.  I'm pretty sure the little one has dropped, which is a good sign.  It means she's coming soon-ish.

My most recent belly shot at 37 weeks.  I'm currently 38 weeks and 3 days, so I guess I ought to take a new picture.  But things are getting pretty big.

Maybe next time I post, I'll have a sweet little baby laying in my arms, and I'll be up to my eyeballs in laundry and dishes, but won't care.  Can't wait!

Memories of a Girl

Above is the title of my first ever photo series.  The past winter semester in my color theory class, I had to produce a series of images for a major assignment.  I was able to choose the subject matter, but it had to maintain some type of color theme.  I had spent the majority of the semester thinking of what I wanted to photograph that was meaningful to me and that I would enjoy producing.  The idea of creating memory-like photos kept coming up as I brainstormed, but I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to execute that type of photography.  I thought about using a digital camera with a tilt-shift lens, then I thought about using a lensbaby, then I thought about just shooting 35 mm film, but finally decided to shoot on my Holga with 120 color neg film.

Best project ever.  My idea went from wanting to capture life memories, as I was/am in a time where I OFTEN look back at all of my great life memories and the lessons learned during those times, but I eventually decided to focus on memories of a young girl.  I used my niece as my model, which was perfect.   I ended up printing the photos onto matte paper and hand binding it.  The book is fun, but it was such a stress to make.  I seriously re-made the book over and over again to get it right (I handed the book in as the final product for not only my color theory class, but also for my book binding class at BYU), but it eventually worked out.  I'm definitely my own worst critic so I can't say I LOVE the book itself.  I feel like it's missing some kind of pizzaz to make it AWESOME.  But, I do love how the Holga images turned out.  There were so many gems that I got from this project that didn't make the cut, but that's alright.  Maybe I'll share those at a later time.

For now, here is my entire color series.  All images were taken on color positive (E61) film, cross processed (in C41 chemicals), and given a pinky-peachy color overlay in photoshop.  The actual images were not photoshopped (ie, the double exposures, etc)...all of that magic was done in camera, with some Holga specialness.

Also, 10 mini series complete this color project and each mini series includes 4 photos.  I'll post the first 4 series, and each day show more.  Enjoy:
